Yoga means unity – Yoga is the complete harmony of body, mind and soul. It is about 'doing', and 'feeling' what you do. It is about concentration and awareness and is based on the tradition of Krishnamacharia, BKS. Iyengar, Dona Holleman (Centered Yoga) and Orit Sen-Gupta (Vijnana yoga).
Every practice and every class begins with 'sitting', pranayama (breathing exercises) and the vayus.
All beginners learn the basic postures (standing poses, twisting, simple back bends, forward bends, shoulder balance, head balance and resting poses) and they do this by using the principles of gravity, alignment of bones and muscles, and correct posture in addition to breathing.
Integrating these elements enables the student to perform the asanas (yoga postures) with ease and beauty. The seven vital principles, as cultivated by Dona Holleman and Orit Sen-Gupta, are integrated in the practice.
The seven vital principles include: Relaxed Body, Empty Mind, Intent, Rooting, Connecting, Breathing and Elongating.
The practice focuses on the development of inner strength, suppleness, balance, intelligence, concentration, stabilization and attention. Through practice, the student learns to build a stable self-practice as part of a personal journey toward transformation.
This concept of Hatha Yoga (the physical practice of yoga), combined with the knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, builds a strong, balanced and healthy body.
